Relievers (also called Bronchodilators or rescue medicines):
    • Reliever medicines work on the muscles on the outside of the airways.
    • You should use Reliever medicines when you have asthma symptoms like cough, wheeze, shortness of breath or chest tightness.
    • They provide quick relief of asthma symptoms, usually within 10 minutes.
    • If your Reliever medicine does not begin to improve symptoms within 10 minutes or if you are using it more often than every three hours, you need to go to the nearest Emergency Department.
    • If you are using your Reliever medicine more than 3 times a week to treat symptoms, it means that your asthma is not well controlled.
    • If you are using your Reliever medicine every 4 hours, you should see your doctor.
    • Side effects from Reliever medicines are increased heart rate, shakiness, and dizziness.
