What Causes Asthma?
The short answer is…we don’t know!   What we DO know is: Asthma happens more often if allergies or asthma “runs in your family”. Your environment probably plays a role – for example, living with someone who smokes increases your chance of having asthma. Asthma is not “contagious”.  You can’t catch it from someone and you can’t give it to someone. Asthma is NOT caused by emotions (see “What Triggers Asthma? ”).  Asthma is not “all in your head”.
  •         People with asthma have very sensitive airways. That means that there are many things that make the swelling worse and makes breathing harder.  Anything that makes asthma worse is called a Trigger.
